AMANDA : PROFILE
I founded GO-Yoga in 2004 with 10 years’
experience of the practice of yoga.
|
Yoga first became an important part of my life
in 1995 with my first teacher William Robertson, founder of West
London Yogashala and student of Shandor Remete (Shadow Yoga). I
was introduced at this time to a practice combining Hatha &
Ashtanga Yoga. I moved into the traditional practice of Ashtanga,
attending regular world-renowned Ashtanga yoga teacher’s workshops
in Oxford.
In 2001, I completed a Teaching Techniques course with John Scott,
one of the leading International Ashtanga Vinyasa Instructors, certified
and blessed by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois (guru and founder of Ashtanga
Vinyasa Yoga). I continued my training and received my teaching
certification at It’s Yoga, a Yoga Alliance registered school
in San Francisco founded by another of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois’
direct students.
With my daily practice I seek to deepen my knowledge and understanding
of yoga so that I can share my experience with my students in a
way that is congruent with my practice. I believe that, in yoga
and in life we are able to achieve all that we set our hearts to.
And with focus and determination we are able to reach the goals
that challenge us. Yoga encourages us to be still allowing the path
of our journey to unfold.
I encourage my students to work to their limits, but never beyond
challenging them to reach their personal desired outcomes. One of
my personal goals is that each student leaves the class feeling
strong, positive and energized.
 |
In 2004, I expanded my practice
and began to fuse yoga with pilates realizing the benefits
of pilates and the symmetry of the two disciplines. I furthered
my expertise with a Pilates Matwork teacher training course
with Jonathan Urla, an ex-dancer and choreographer of 10 years,
who certified in Yoga & Pilates in New York.
2009/10 sees myself furthering my training with the Pilates
Foundation. Having become a trainee member of the Foundation,
I will be expected to dedicate 18 hours per week to the Comprehensive
course, highly reputed and regarded by many as the best Pilates
teacher training in the world. I will as a consequence be
moving more into the rehabilitation world of pilates and bringing
the in-depth body and core awareness of my learnings into
my teaching practice. |
|
Incorporating Pilates into my own practice, I created and
continue to develop Yoga/Pilates Fusion, one of today’s
most popular classes at GO-Yoga. |
I am constantly looking to improve my knowledge
& further my expertise … to cease one's study is to stagnate,
and to stagnate is to stop growing.
