MARTA: PROFILE
I was introduced to yoga about 6 years ago
in a little place called Bankroft (Canada). At that stage
of my life I knew very little about yoga practise, its history
or philosophy. Luckily I met some terrific people who gave
the basic knowledge and increased my curiosity to explore
further. |
Back in London I bought myself many books, videos and started regular
practise of several different styles of yoga including Bikram, Astanga
and Sivananda. My yoga practise back then was more about the “physical
workout” rather than trying to find the true honesty of mind
and body. I became obsessed with the physical practise so intensely
that eventually I put myself through endless pain and constant visits
to chiropractors!!
I believe that everything happens for a reason. My injuries made
me realise that I needed to step back and rethink everything, change
my approach and make a fresh start. Through my recovery I met an
amazing Pilates instructor Sharon Syker who not only showed me the
joy of practising Pilates but also encouraged me to follow the path
of becoming a yoga teacher. Having learnt the hard way I’m
keen help others avoid my mistakes.
This is when my “true” journey began. I met Jill Everett
the founder of an Anusara Yoga studio in London and simply got hooked
on Anusara. I joined hands-on workshops with Jill herself, Bridget
Woods-Kramer, Doug Keller and most recently I have finished the
Anusara teacher training with Kathleen Hogan. Kathleen taught me
that “yoga is a journey where there’s no need to overburden
yourself with the difficulties that it may arise from it, just work
at your own pace and enjoy the journey!”. She also opened
my eyes to my true-self, of honouring my body and its limitations.
I now giving myself plenty of time to explore and enjoy my practise
and say the same to my students.
I guess remembering that fun is part of the journey helps greatly!
I try to inject fun and laughter in own practise, trying to rediscover
my inner child in order to help myself and others to have more fun
and enjoyment!! I now understand that yoga is not a race with others,
it’s about you and how honest you are with yourself.
|
Having been practising Yoga and Pilates for a while I now combine
the two together which not only stimulates the mind and body
but also gives you a great sense of personal accomplishment.
Also adding a great dose of fun can make things even more enjoyable!!

“My Guru told me; That child, which is you
even now, is the real self. Go back to that state of pure being,
where the I Am is still in its purity before it got contaminated
with This I Am or That I Am” - Ramana Maharshi
